A New Lease of Life in an Old Village

Located in the parish of Elmton with Creswell, the Model Village was restored to the "original Victorian look with all the mod cons of today".  This refurbishment took place in 1998 when the Model Village Residents' Association "started the ball rolling for a Heritage Lottery Bid to improve the Central Green".  In 2000, more funding was secured to complete the restoration by Bolsover District Council and Villagate (a private landlord).

The Residents' Association consists of 13 members, with 4 of those taking the role of "officers" as Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.  We don't only try to sort out particular problems and help improve the Model Village, we also put on events and various outings which are enjoyed by the whole village.

The "Model" as it is commonly known was not the only place in Creswell to benefit from restoration and refurbishments.  Creswell Crags also benefited from some TLC.  This took quite a bit of work as the sewage works and the road that leads through the Crags had to be relocated to make it into the place it is now.  Even the visitor centre got a new lease of life.

There are some walk ways in Creswell now - some of them lead through Elmton, some lead through Creswell and incorporate Creswell as a whole village, and others lead through Creswell Crags. All these trails incorporate a variety of wildlife and is a beautiful place for a relaxing walk and places to visit where you can sit, relax and take in the wonderful atmosphere of this old village.
